The 9 best Tips for your Fall Facial Skin Care Routine

November 23, 2020

When the weather is transitioning from warm to cold it is time to change a few things on your skincare routine – if you want to take care of your skin in the best possible way. Cooler temperatures are not necessarily beneficial for your skin as the drastic drop in temperature and humidity can make your skin dry, itchy and flaky. To avoid that it is really important to nourish your skin according to the season we are in. But since everything starts all over again in fall, why not take the chance to rejuvenate your skin and prepare it for winter? To help you do that, we have some useful tips that make it easy to adapt your fall skincare routine.

Summer is all about oil-free, lightweight moisturizers, but they don’t work for fall. We recommend you to opt for thicker moisturizers during fall season and a creamy cleanser that doesn’t foam up. It’s important that the skin doesn’t get stripped of its natural oils during the colder months. Take advantage of the time your skin repairs itself – which is usually during night time – by applying an ultra moisturizing night cream like the INDICA CBD City Detox night cream. It’s a new type of night cream with a high concentration of CBD that smoothes the skin overnight and helps prevent premature skin aging. It contains over 75% active ingredients – a novelty in skin care – powerful antioxidants from natural high-quality ingredients such as poppy seed oil, CBD, retinol and lavender. If you want to learn more about the importance of using a night cream, check out this blog post on 7 reasons why you need to start using a night cream.

2. Moisturize your skin as good as you can.

To keep your skin optimally balanced during cooler months, we recommend you to swap your light, summer-friendly daily moisturizer with a richer option. Now is the time to not only moisturize your face as good as you can but also your entire body. Use that extra bit of body lotion after you’ve showered or before you go to bed. It takes a while for your skin to adjust to colder temperatures, so be gentle to your skin!

3. Cut back on exfoliating.

Especially if you have sensitive skin, you don’t need to use exfoliating products every day. Fall is also the time to cut back on exfoliating or stop using aggressive peelings for a while. Especially those with ingredients like glycolic acid. It might be a little too much for your skin and you don’t want rashes, redness or irritations for your skin.

4. Keep your skin hydrated.

Leaving the skin dehydrated makes it more susceptible to seasonal breakouts. Just as our nutritional needs change with the seasons (heartier meals in the winter and lighter ones in the summer), it is very important to nourish your skin according to the seasons. Of course that also starts with what you put inside your body, so make sure you drink lots of water or tea if that suits you better when it’s getting colder outside. Make sure you use skin care products that are extra moisturizing for your skin, apply a face cream multiple times a day if necessary.

5. Use a Lip Moisturizer.

As mentioned before, our skin does not react well to immediate changes in temperature and humidity. Your lips are especially sensitive to these changes and to keep them from cracking and splitting, you should use a lip moisturizer on a daily basis. Just be careful you are not getting too much used to it!

6. Use products with the right ingredients.

Now is the time to reintroduce retinols back into your routine – whether your skincare concern is acne or wrinkles, retinol promises a fix. This special ingredient can help mitigate the signs of aging, acne, hyperpigmentation, and more. Some dermatologists even call it the secret sauce to smooth, younger-looking and even-toned skin. Especially in combination with the highly anti-inflammatory cannabidiol (CBD), retinol offers some serious antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits which can work wonders in treating skin concerns like inflammation, dryness and free radical damage.

7.  Don't stop wearing sunscreen.

Even though you probably won’t be spending a lot of time outside as you would like to (sadly!) it is crucial that you keep wearing sunscreen even in fall season. Whenever you step outside your skin needs protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays all year long and they are also there when you can’t see them —even on cloudy and rainy days. So make sure you use a face cream with SPF – there’s even some great natural ones, like the INDICA CBD Detox Day Cream – a natural face cream that contains a high amount of CBD and also an SPF. Here you can also find more tips why it is so important to integrate skin care products with SPF into your skin care regimen.

8. Eat more foods your skin loves.

It is well known that nutrition plays a huge part in how your skin looks. So the food you eat is equally important than the type of skin care you are using. To support your skin to adapt to colder temperatures, now is the best time to load up on skin-friendly foods. From pomegranate, berries and peaches to pumpkin and other winter squashes, each one of these seasonal superfoods is packed with antioxidants that are great for the skin. Also beets, cranberries, apples, and brussels sprouts are all packed with different nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that boost your immune system, increase collagen production, and improve skin complexion.

9. Use a humidifier at home.

Along with your regular skincare regimen, it could be a smart choice to invest in a humidifier at home. A humidifier adds moisture to the air in closed rooms, which is especially important during the start of the heating period in fall where the air inside can get really dry. This is so important because your skin constantly interferes with the air – the more moisture in the air, the more moisture your skin will absorb. When seasons are changing more abruptly than ever these days, your skin needs time to adapt, so try to make it as easy as possible.
